Connecting Lives & Breaking Stigmas

The brains behind Positive+1 describe the app as “a first of its kind globally,” addressing the needs of a community seeking connection and information. Members can explore a variety of features, including educational materials, drug details, local support networks, and personal connections with both professionals and peers.

"This has been almost a decade in the making, and I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved."

Positive+1: Providing the HIV community with a platform to find connection, support, and maybe even love.

“People with HIV experience stigma due to outdated stereotypes and misinformation,” says David Vaughn, a consultant to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a person living with HIV since 2004. “This can often lead to people with HIV feeling isolated and experiencing poorer mental health. Positive+1 is a welcome addition, allowing people with HIV to connect with those sharing similar experiences. I hope the app will be the catalyst for many friendships and a space where people can seek advice and encouragement to stay healthy.”

From Vision to Reality: The Journey of Positive+1

The mastermind behind Positive+1 is Christian Mercer-Hall, a young gay dad from the U.K. His journey began after the unfortunate incident of his barbershop and tattoo parlor burning down, shifting his focus towards creating a platform that would make a positive impact on the lives of those with HIV.

“It feels surreal to say we’re finally here,” Mercer-Hall expresses. “This has been almost a decade in the making, and I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved. A resource like Positive+1 is going to make a difference to so many people, on so many levels.”
